FAQs

Will you give a speech/ presentation at my event?

For speaking engagements, please drop a line to Rob Firing at Transatlantic Agency (rob@transatlanticagency.com).

Will you read/ moderate at my event?

Please get in touch with Erin Kelly (ekelly@penguinrandomhouse.com). She keeps my schedule organized and maximizes my time when I’m away from home.

When’s your next public event?

I keep my events page updated with readings and public appearances.

Will you visit my book club?

I’m taking a break from book club visits. As much as I love them, I need to bring home some bacon and write a new book.

What are you working on now?

A second novel and a play. But that’s all I can say for now.

Why are there no quotation marks in The Boat People?

Good question.

What happens next, after the end of The Boat People?

That's all she wrote, I'm afraid. It is up to every reader to decide for themselves what happens to the characters and what they do next. But if you really must know more and have finished reading the book and aren't worried about spoilers, here's something I wrote about the ending. And here’s a reader’s imagined ending.

I finished your novel and I want more!

Here's a little something.

Are you sick of signing books yet?

Never! It’s honestly a privilege each and every time.

Can I hire you to review/ help with my manuscript?

You sure can. Get in touch for a quote.

Will you blurb my book?

Send a note to Martha Webb (mwebb@cookemcdermid.com). Please, please, give me at least three months notice. It takes time to read a book and then write something half sensible in its favour. I generally only blurb one book a year.

Can I earn a living as a writer?

Ah, the perennial question. I think the answer is yes.

Any tips on getting a book published?

So many.

Any advice for a debut author?

Buckle up, friend.
